Let’s Talk About High Efficiency Fan MotorsFriday 1st August 2014 11:09am
These days, everyone is thinking about sustainability and energy efficiency, and rightly so. With electricity costs skyrocketing, we want to make sure we do our part to save energy — and our hard-earned money. Buying a ceiling fan with a new, high efficiency motor is one surefire way to lower your electricity bills and do your part to help the environment, as well.
How Do High Efficiency Motors Work?
Most high efficiency fans are equipped with what is known as a direct current, or DC motor. The motor starts when a small electric current passes through a magnetic field coil, which produces torque that turns the motor. This process is extremely energy efficient – these motors have a 70 percent or greater reduction in power usage compared to a standard non-high efficiency motor. This process also allows the motor to stay cool, which improves its durability. There is very little noise, and high efficiency fan motors are smaller and lighter than standard motors.
You may notice that these motors are a little more expensive, and you may be wondering if it is worth the cost. I can tell you it most definitely is. While the initial cost may seem high, you have to think about the big picture. Not only will you be saving money on your energy bills (which will help offset that initial investment in a better motor), a high efficiency motor will last much longer than a conventional motor. You probably won’t have any additional maintenance costs, and it’s very unlikely that you’ll find yourself needing to replace the motor in the near future. This tends to be reflected in the warranties that come with our high efficiency fans.
Fans with High Efficiency Motors
At Ceiling Fans Direct, we offer many high quality, high efficiency fans. Not sure where to start? Take a look at our Revolution Ceiling Fan. This fan has an exciting new design. The smaller high efficiency motor allows ceiling fan designers to come up with new fan shapes that were not possible before. This fan has advanced aerodynamic blades, putting it at the cutting edge of ceiling fan efficiency.
The Aeration 2 Blade 495 Designer Eco Efficient Ceiling Fan has won multiple international awards for design and energy efficiency. Built with just two blades, this unique fan operates in almost complete silence. It is built with the energy-efficient DC motor and uses a 3d-Aerofoil blade system. It uses only a fraction of the electricity used by a conventional fan.
The ECO 2 Ceiling fan, designed right here in Australia, has a custom-wound high efficiency motor. Its blades are built with the new aerofoil design, which provides high airflow all while using less energy. This fan also comes with wall speed control capacitors, further reducing its energy consumption. The capacitors reduce the power when the fan is running on medium and low speeds.
